Melinda Henrickson is a passionate advocate for social justice and equity, committed to fighting for a fair and inclusive society. Born in Washington D.C. and raised in a diverse community, Melinda learned early on the importance of empathy, understanding, and standing up for those who have been marginalized or oppressed.
Melinda and her spouse moved to Beaufort nearly 25 years ago courtesy of the U.S. Marine Corps. As a military spouse with frequent moves, she's had an unconventional career path and has been employed by Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit organizations, and the federal government. Her breadth of experience includes 20 years in human resources and program management in several different industries from global manufacturing, to engineering, to professional leadership development.
In January 2023, she founded Families Against Book Bans (FABB), a grassroots activism organization to oppose the rise in censorship and book banning in South Carolina. Melinda is now running for State House to amplify the voices of those who have been silenced for too long. She believes that everyone deserves access to high-quality public education and economic opportunity, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. As your next representative in South Carolina House District 124, Melinda is committed to advancing policies that promote social justice and equality for all.
Melinda has a bachelor's degree in Biological Psychology from The College of William & Mary and a master's degree in Organizational Performance from Bellevue University. She owns and operates a store in downtown Beaufort and lives on Lady’s Island with her husband and three children.
